By Roxanne Reid Think African travel and chances are the first word that pops into your mind is safari. Much as I love wildlife and safari, there’s so much more to Africa than that. This collaborative post highlights some of the best African countries to visit for epic things to do, from scuba diving and surfing to hiking on the rim of a live volcano. By Roxanne Reid Combine coastal Africa and a Mediterranean mindset and you have laid-back Pemba in the northern Cabo Delgado province of Mozambique. Just a short skip across the sea to the Quirimbas Archipelago you’ll find a tropical island paradise at Medjumbe. These are the contrasts of northern Mozambique – and each has its own appeal. By Roxanne Reid ‘Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.’ So said Scott Cameron, and I agree with him. The more I travel, the more places I discover that still have to be explored. Apart from a trip to the Norwegian fjords, which is outside Africa so doesn't count on this exclusively African travel blog, here are my 6 travel highlights of 2014, in random order. By Roxanne Reid I was recently invited to visit the northern Mozambique port of Pemba in Cabo Delgado province and then take a short flight to Medjumbe Island in the Quirimbas Archipelago. Anyone who has visited that part of the world will know what an odd mix of true Africa and tropical paradise it is. But for me the highlight was Mozambique’s friendly people. |
