Etosha King Nehale is a glorious lodge just outside the northern Nehale Lya Mpingana Gate of Etosha National Park, one of my favourite wild spaces. Apart from treating you like royalty, the lodge opens opportunities to explore Etosha’s Andoni Plains and a private waterhole not open to the ordinary visitor.

We’d spent a morning in Etosha National Park, listening to the low rumblings of elephants, the frenzied i-hah, i-hah of zebras and the loud tink, tink, tink of blacksmith lapwings. Now we were listening to the tinkling of ice in our gin and tonics and watching from the sunset deck at Etosha Safari Lodge as the sky caught fire. By Roxanne Reid
[Updated May 2024] Dominated by the white salt flats of Etosha Pan, Etosha National Park is one of southern Africa’s great safari destinations. This 22 700 square kilometre wilderness area in Namibia is home to nearly 115 species of mammals, including four of the Big Five (no buffalo). Here’s the ultimate guide to everything you need to know about Etosha. By Roxanne Reid Deserts, rivers, wildlife, amazing landscapes. I’ve written elsewhere about the best places and things to do in south and central Namibia. In this companion piece about a country I’ve visited more than 30 times and has crept into my heart, I’m sharing my pick of places to visit and things to do in Namibia: the north. You’ll also find some tips to know before you go. By Roxanne Reid Life should be made of moments like these. We’re on the deck overlooking the natural bush of northern Namibia at dawn. A pink sunrise unravels through the clouds as a jackal yelps in the distance and a spurfowl chuck-chucks nearby. We’re at Anderssons at Ongava Game Reserve bordering Etosha; our day of wild immersion has just begun. By Roxanne Reid There aren’t many places in the world where you can shower with an elephant before enjoying dinner around a campfire while live music pulsates with energetic township vibe. Not unless you stay at Etosha Safari Camp 10km south of Etosha National Park’s Andersson Gate in Namibia. By Roxanne Reid Which are the best African safari holidays? If you love wildlife, these 7 parks everyone should visit will be on your wish list. They span 7 countries in southern and East Africa. I’ll tell you what to expect, best time to visit, things you can do there, and some ins and outs to be aware of when planning your safari. By Roxanne Reid Even when you have a slow day of game viewing at Namibia's Etosha National Park, you’re in the pound seats back at Okaukuejo camp. In our experience it’s a great place in the dry season to see elephants on an Etosha safari. By Roxanne Reid There are more than 40 waterholes at Etosha National Park, each with its own strengths. We’re so addicted to this wildlife park in northern Namibia that we’ve visited nearly 30 times and have got to know the waterholes very well. For consistently good wildlife sightings over the years, here's my pick of 12 of the best. By Roxanne Reid Olifantsrus Camp in Etosha National Park in Namibia is the park’s newest campsite and it’s a wonderfully different experience. For the first time in Etosha’s history it’s a dedicated campsite, with not a chalet to be seen. And it’s in the western section that was previously closed to ordinary tourists. |
