That’s why to go on a sound safari with Nature SoundMap is such a brilliant idea. I love it – and you will too.
Launched in the first week of January 2014, it's an interactive way of exploring the natural sounds of our world. More than 50 professional nature recordists have collaborated to combine high-quality field recordings with the latest satellite imagery and transport you to a different world at the click of a mouse.

Basically, you'll see the familiar Google map of the world, with place markers indicating areas for which recordings have been uploaded. Hover your mouse over a marker to see where and what the sound is. If it takes your fancy, click to open a dialogue box that lets you listen in.
You can explore the whole globe, where over 200 recordings have already been uploaded. In Africa alone there are already more than two dozen recordings – and more are planned. Listen to toads on the Nile in Egypt, hyenas in the Maasai Mara, dawn sounds of the Kalahari or on Cameroon’s Mount Kupe, even the haunting cry of the indri in the forests of Madagascar.
