Buffalo steaks may be a favourite on the menu for lions, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. At least they didn’t for one lion in the Kruger National Park recently. See what happened when a buffalo launched a counter-attack to save its friend …
Video footage of the amazing rescue was taken by Ian Matheson, who was on an early morning game drive in the park with his 16-year-old son Oliver. Watch the amazing video here to see how the lion was flipped five metres into the air, executing an unexpected somersault.
Apparently neither the buffalo nor the lion was seriously harmed during the incident. Afer nearly being down and out, the buffalo got away with its life. The lion probably suffered a knock to its self-esteem, but was lucky; it wouldn’t have been the first lion to suffer serious damage from a buffalo’s horns.
