When I was a child, summer holidays usually meant a trip to Durban to visit my granny, then on to the north or south coast for a beach holiday. Recently I’ve watched three videos that brought some of those memories flooding back, videos that will inspire you to visit KZN.
I can still feel the sand between my toes, smell the sun cream, see the bright beach umbrellas and taste the melting ice cream cones, though those memories are wrapped in a syrupy humidity that was less easy to love. But when you watch this aerial and time-lapse video, you’ll see how much more there is to Durban, from sea, sunsets and piers to the city hall, the stadium and street performances.
I can’t think of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) without hankering after the magnificence of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg National Park. If hiking, rock climbing, birding and San rock art get you excited, this is a great place to spend time, whether you’re looking for a simple camping trip or the luxury of being waited on hand and foot. This video shows some of the things you can look forward to.
If you’re driving to the KZN coast from Gauteng, you’ll want to know more about the enticements of the Midlands Meander. With everything from wetlands, grasslands and a mist belt, this inland area of KZN offers many natural and wildlife experiences. It also buzzes with artists and crafters, museums, and wonderful activities from birding, biking, fishing and hiking to canopy tours.
