Leopards have to eat, right? But sometimes you can't help rooting for the underdog when predator meets prey. Watch how a wildebeest mum saves her calf from a grisly death at the jaws of a leopard in Kenya.
Small calves are easily taken by a leopard. But not this time.
As you see in the video, at first the mother ran away from the predator – an instinctive response. But when she saw that the cat had grabbed her calf, she turned and in a show of either bravery or foolhardiness, head-butted it away.
The leopard, obviously not used to this sort of treatment from a lowly wildebeest, just slunk away. Wildebeest schnitzel wasn’t going to be on his lunch menu that day.
While Kathy Farrell was taking the video, her husband Martin was clicking away madly with his camera. You can see his photographs and the full story of their exciting game drive in this article from the UK’s Daily Mail.
