Just around the corner from the more famous and weirdly compelling Owl House in Nieu Bethesda, near Graaff-Reinet in the Karoo, is the Kitching Fossil Exploration Centre, which depicts the fossil history of the area.
1. Live in a lowland area.
2. Die where you get buried.
3. Avoid being eaten.
4. Get buried quickly.
5. Get mineralised (preferably in 50 000 years).
6. Avoid earthquakes and volcanoes.
7. Get uncovered and discovered, preferably by someone who knows what he’s doing.
Such an original and simple way of teaching how fossils are formed!
